Favorite Revisited III (KY Blue)- 31:21

calipariquote.2013

It’s Monday!  Time for a favorite revisited.  You may remember when I posted about my favorite non-favorites.  The activity I revisited this weekend didn’t make the list, but it would be related.  You may also remember my post from Friday about favorite living.  Today’s post would be about that experience.

You see, one of my favorite things to do is spend time with family and friends.  One of my least favorite things to do is attend a sports event (unless my nephew is playing).  Being from Kentucky, the home of THE CATS, Big Blue Nation and so forth, I almost feel disloyal even saying that attending a sports event is not my favorite thing to do.

However, because I love my husband and my friends I got out of my comfort zone and agreed to go to Big Blue Madness.  I mean, our friend camped out for two whole days to get us the tickets.  He was beyond excited to go.  Rocky was also excited.  The wives, not so much. But we were good troopers.  We’ve already let them know that we are otherwise booked next year though!

I know.  There are a few die hard Kentucky fans out there who are thinking about now that I am beyond crazy.  I can live with that.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love it when the cats win a game.  And I would love for them to win the NCAA every year.   I just don’t feel the strong urge to witness it personally.

I don’t even own a Kentucky T-shirt.  I wore black.  In a sea of blue and white.  I can live with that.  I did like the blue lights and the fireworks were pretty spectacular.  They put on a good show, but if you watched it at home on TV you probably had a slightly better view and could control the volume.  The volume. Let’s just say I may need hearing aids.  I loved some of the music, but it was so loud that you really couldn’t hear it well.

I am really glad that my husband (who also thought the volume was too loud) was able to attend this event.  He loves his wildcats and is one of their most loyal fans. So, climbing up steep steps, to sit on narrow bleachers with no back, and a view that is so straight down that if you lean a little too forward you might just topple, was a true act of love for this slightly neurotic, claustrophobic, gasping for breath, middle-aged woman, who kept trying not to think about how she would get back down from such lofty heights, once the ordeal event was over.

I did eventually get my breath back, and my nerves leveled. People filled up the spots in front of me which made it not seem so steep and I was able to laugh with my friends, make a few jokes and realize that it wasn’t such a bad experience after all. Coach Calipari’s speech was most inspiring and sincere.

And the favorite part? The favorite part was the fellowship with new friends and getting to know them a little better.  The favorite part was all about living and being a part of something that makes so many people happy. The favorite part was knowing that my husband was on cloud nine (almost literally, considering the section we were sitting in).

Could I do it again?  Yes.  Will I do it again?  I never say never.  Do I have a desire to do it again?  Not necessarily.  But, under the right circumstances my arm could be twisted.

I’m thinking I may need to search for something to wear in Kentucky blue.  In the meantime, let me know the score when the game is over and I’ll be happy they won.

Hyperventilating in grace,

  1. Hahaha! I like your “hyperventilating in grace” closing, Teresa. That would have been my experience too. We watched a little on the telly. My favorite part was the antics of the women’s coach. His dancing, prancing and strutting was pretty comical. He seems like a great guy.
