Favorite Colors – 31:15

She Paints with many colored brooms…. e.d.

I can’t have just one favorite color.  I have a few.  When I was in school blue was everybody’s favorite color so I chose yellow because I wanted to be different.  Turns out yellow is not my favorite color.  Blue is.  Two shades to be exact. And about fifty shades of white.  And orange.  Yep. Orange.

1.  Cobalt Blue – this is my kitchen accent color.  kitchen bottlesI even have a cobalt blue chalkboard wall in my kitchen

croppedIf you look at the ceiling in the adjoining room you will see my other favorite shade of blue.

2.  A light aqua / Tiffany shade of blue.  I have a room ceiling and two closets painted this shade.  My front Porch ceiling is also in this family.

3.  Creamy whites. I also love Whites for decorating.  I drool over mostly white rooms.  Several of my interior rooms are painted Bleached Linen by Behr, but mixed in a Valspar paint.

cropped.workroom.This is the workroom before we moved in.  It had such possibilities.  I could show you a picture of how it looks now, but….well, we’ll save that for another day.

4.  Orange is also a favorite color.  It is my happy color.  It is a color that my sister and I have in common (we call ourselves sister orange, or is it orange sister?).  I don’t decorate with orange, although I did see a killer laundry room once with an orange ceiling and it was mentally filed for future consideration. It is from Mary Anne Smiley Interiors. In her collection of closets and utility rooms it is numbers 12, 13 and 14. Love it!  All her spaces are beautiful.

There you have it – a few of my favorite colors.  I also love the show of color that autumn puts on – especially those hot pink melting into red fire colored leaves. You know the one’s I’m talking about:

cropped.redtree.I hope you are splashing in color today.  Leave a comment and tell me your favorite color, or two, or three.

Favorite Revisited II – 31:14

{If you’re new this is a Monday favorite revisited post, written for 31 Days – A Compendium of Favorites.  Click here for all the 31 Days posts.  If you’ve been following along, thanks for coming back.}

Last Friday I compiled a list of eight of my favorite movies.  Movies that I have and will watch multiple times.  I chose one of those movies to watch again this weekend.  None of them were available on Netflix, so I went with one I had. I do not have copies of all my favorites – this must be remedied!

I chose to watch You’ve Got Mail.  You can access a fun little interactive site with interesting information about New York as it relates to the movie here.

newyorkfallquoteI have been thinking about why this movie rates as a favorite.  To me it has a timeless charm that I never tire of.  Of course, it’s a given that I’m a romantic.  But it is more than the romance that draws me to this movie.

I love Kathleen Kelly’s apartment.  I paused the movie in one scene so I could figure out how her apartment is laid out.  I love all the bookshelves, the large windows, the detail on the molding and woodwork, her decorating style – all of it.

I love the Little Shop Around the Corner.  What book lover wouldn’t want a little shop like that to browse in?  It has an old fashioned charm.  It is a landmark that has always been there.  That she closed the shop because of the big box book store was actually my least favorite part of the movie. They should have found a way to keep the shop.  I have always dreamed of owning such a shop.

The Hooked on Houses Blog has a post from 2009 that gives the plot of the movie and shows lots of pictures.

Even though I’ve never been to New York, I love the energy of the city that comes through in the movie and how you see the gentle side of New York.  It almost made me want to live there.  If I could afford the rent.

The characters in the movie were likable as well. I loved the closeness Kathleen had with her employee’s.  They were her family and you knew she cared more about them, than she did the bottom line.  Even Joe Fox, who is the reason she has to close her shop, has redeemable qualities and from the beginning you are rooting for them to find each other and live happily ever after.

And the quotes.  The writing is good.  Some of my favorite quotes are from this move.

“I go on line, and my breath catches in my chest until I hear three little words: You’ve got mail. I hear nothing, not even a sound on the streets of New York, just the beat of my own heart. I have mail. From you.”  Kathleen Kelly

“When you read a book as a child, it becomes a part of your identity in a way that no other reading in your whole life does.” – Kathleen Kelly

Joe Fox( discussing the significance of the NY152 handle and what it means) – “Mr. 152 Felony indictments.”

Kathleen Kelly – ” Mr. 152 insights into my soul.”

“The odd thing about this form of communication is that you’re more likely to talk about nothing than something. But I just want to say that all this nothing has meant more to me than so many somethings.” – Kathleen Kelly

Joe Fox – “Don’t cry, Shopgirl. Don’t cry.”

Kathleen Kelly – “I wanted it to be you. I wanted it to be you so badly.” – Kathleen Kelly

Kathleen Kelly – “I love daisies.”

Joe Fox – “You told me.”

Kathleen Kelly –  “They’re so friendly. Don’t you think daisies are the friendliest flower?”

My husband watched this movie with me.  And when Joe said the line about the bouquet of pencils, Rocky looked over at me with that little knowing smile and a nod of his head as if to say, “see, that is your favorite line”.  He knows me pretty well and he will watch my favorite movies with me even when there is a game he’d rather be watching.  That might just be my favorite of all, about this or any movie.

Re-watching in grace,

Teresa (aka Sadie Grace)

PS – How appropriate that my 100th post is about one of my favorite movies!  Happy 100th to me.

(some) Favorite New Blogs (weekend toss) – 31:12

On Saturday I give you links to blogs I enjoy.  We are almost two weeks in to the 31 day challenge.  I have spent some time checking out new to me blogs.  So today I decided to give you links to a few of my favorites. Some of the images are larger than others, as I copied them from each person’s blog, so the size has nothing to do with how I rank them.  If you have time please leave a comment on each blog you visit and encourage them in their 31 day journey.  Enjoy!

Favorite Movies – 31:11

Movies.  I love a good movie; mostly chick flicks. And I realize in the case of movies, good is a relative term.  Your good may be my bad and likewise.  If you read through my list of favorite movies you will not find anything more profound than Mary Poppins.  I’m OK with that.  I know I can be deep and profound when I need to be.

With movies, I tend to lean more to the romantic comedy with the occasional children’s movie thrown in, which some might say is shallow.  I’m OK with that.  I watch movies for the pure entertainment and that little happy glow when they all live happily ever after.  They are my escape from reality.  I also like movies for the little bits of my dreams I see in them.

I have enjoyed a lot of movies and this list could probably contain more than eight, but for today this is a list of my favorite movies in no particular order. To make this list it had to be a movie I have seen more than once or twice.  A movie that I would sit down now and watch again and then again tomorrow if you wanted me to watch it with you.

I plan to re-visit one of these movies this weekend and write about it in Monday’s post.  So stay tuned.  You might catch a glimpse of why it is on my favorites list.  I may even learn something about myself.  Maybe you too will be inspired to watch a good movie this weekend, even one of mine.
